Objective & Subjective Paragraphs about Centro Cultural de la Raza
There is a lot of history and meaning behind the Centro Cultural de Raza. One of them include the huge mural inside it, which is called “La Dualidad”. It took the artists 15 years to paint the mural, starting with lots of sketches and practice. Before the painting of The Duality, the artists visited Mexico to get some inspiration and knowledge about chicano history and cultura. “ La Dualidad” has 3 parts including the left far side, which stands for the bad or the evil. The second part is the middle, which is the transition from bad to good. Finally, the far right is the good or the “lightness”. The artists painted a whole bunch of symbols and they all mean something important and different.
My reflection and opinion on this mural was when I first saw it was that it was really big and stretched out really far. It had a lot of color and individual paintings, big and small. Some paintings were really hard to see and others were impossible not to notice, including the fist and the snake head popping out of the wall, which was 3-D. Overall, I was really impressed by the mural and how long it took to make and how talented all of the artists are.

Objective & Subjective Paragraphs - Chicano Park
Chicano Park has the biggest outdoor gallery in the United States. There is no other park like this anywhere. The first mural at Chicano Park was built in 1971, Aztlan. Aztlan is the homeland of the Aztecs. Before this, Chicano Park was going to be a sheriff/police station, but a lot of people started protesting they wanted a park here in that area for a very long time, but the mayor wouldn’t deliver. Finally, they gave them what they wanted. They stood in front of tractors to protest to make this a park and not a highway patrol. The makers of the mural had no idea what they were doing; they had no planning or funding what so ever. They realized they built and painted this place for us to remember our history/culture. Not only did men contribute to the murals at Chicano Park, but a lot of important women from all over helped to make this place better too. The women who did this during the Revolution were called the “Adelitas”. They made a lot of symbolism on their paintings including weapons on women to show women can fight like men. Also, they incorporated dripping paint to show how people were throwing paint balls at their art because they didn’t approve of it.
In my opinion, I think Chicano Park is a great place for anyone that wants to learn more about that culture because the paintings all have some sort of symbolism that connects to some sort of important message. I think the murals/ paintings are very inspirational and all have an important part of symbolism. It is a great place to just relax or take the tour to learn about your background. I especially liked all the color on the mural close to the Coronado Bridge. All of these artists are very talented and had a good reason to stand up for what they want.
